How To Choose Shutter Blinds

A window blind is generally used to cover up the window. It has slats which have the ability to overlap with each other. Blinds can be rotated to make it open or close. Wood, metal, fabric or plastic can be used to make blinds. If one needs to protect his house or office from bad weather, temperature and fire, also wishes that none should be able to view their rooms from outside, he can go for metal blinds. Obviously metal blinds are often hung outside of the building. Hand operation is not needed in these kinds of blinds since they are often operated by machines.

There are two types of blinds available based on the way they hang. They are horizontal type and vertical type. Thin woven ladder method is used in horizontal type. It is used for the suspension of slats. The woven ladder’s upper end is wrapped and is attached to a drum which can be rotated. The drum rotation enables the slats to be opened or closed. The blind can be pulled up and stacked completely at the top of the window with the help of a lift cord.

Wider slats are been used in the case of vertical type blinds. It has an additional feature. That is the slats can be fully stacked at one end or it can also be stacked at both the ends by separating it at the center. Rotating shaft is used here in order to rotate the slats. Roller shades, vertical blinds, shutters, horizontal blinds and also roman shades can fall under the category of blinds. Since all those above said devices cover up windows. Awning is also considered as a type of blind in Britain.

Slat blinds and solid blinds are the two main types of blinds. One can open the slat blind in two ways whereas solid blinds can be only lowered or raised. To tell about some other types of blinds, woven-wood blinds and Holland blinds can be mentioned here. Slats have small spaces between them in these types of blinds. The type of blind which doesn’t have any space between the slats is called pleated shades. Nowadays window blinds are automated using motor machines. However manually operated blinds are also available in the market for small scale and home uses. Whatever it may be there is no doubt that blinds provide a good protection from the external things approaching our windows that often annoys us.
