The tannin in the hardwoods gives them extra strength to protect themselves from insects and also they leave out moisture. Softwoods are very sensitive to extreme climatic conditions like heavy rains and also hot sunlight. Though it is better to use hardwoods, it is always necessary to maintain it properly for a longer life time. Generally the exterior shutters can be made of many materials like vinyl, plastic, wood and also made of metals like aluminum and steel.
